Richard Enderlin

Richard Enderlin was born January 11, 1843 in Germany. He enlisted on November 19, 1861 at Chillicothe, Ross County, Ohio as a Musician in Company B, 73rd Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry. He was mustered into federal service along with his regiment on December 15, 1861.

Richard Enderlin was the recipient of the Medal of Honor for the heroism he displayed during the Battle of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania on July 1, 1863 (He voluntarily took a rifle and served in ranks and rescued a wounded comrade). He also was promoted to Sergeant on July 1, 1863. Sergeant Enderlin was mustered out of service on May 30, 1865 at Camp Chase, Ohio.

Richard Enderlin died February 11, 1930 and was buried in Grandview Cemetery in Chillicothe, Ohio. Photographs and information submitted by Don Martin , Camp Commander, Enderlin Camp #73, Ohio Department, SUVCW.
