George W. Andrews and George L. Andrews

George W. Andrews (age 41) and his son, George L. Andrews (age 19), enlisted and were mustered in as Privates into Company L, 6th Ohio Volunteer Cavalry (OVC) on October 9, 1861. George W. was promoted to Wagoneer on December 16, 1861. He transferred to the Veterans Reserve Corps on March 31, 1864 and was mustered out on September 5, 1865. George L. Andrews initially enlisted in the 6th OVC using his middle name "Lucius" so as to avoid confusion with dad in same company. George L. was discharged for disability from the 6th OVC on January 31, 1863. He later (age 21) enlisted and was mustered into Company A, 12th OVC as a Corporal on September 11, 1863. He was promoted to Quarter Master Sergeant on October 24, 1863. He mustered out of the 12th OVC at Nashville, Tennessee on November 14, 1865.

Following the Civil War, George L. Andrews became a member of the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) Tippecanoe Post #51 in White County, Indiana. His wife, Louisa, was a member of the Ladies of the GAR. George L. and his wife are buried in Riverview Cemetery in Monticello. The White County Historical Museum in Monticello, Indiana has the minutes book from the Tippecanoe GAR Post. A passage from the Post book indicates that the Post pedestal was draped to mark the passing of George L. Andrews.
