John Thomas McCracken John Thomas McCracken was born in 1840 in Orange County, Indiana. He was 22 years old and a resident of Tipton, Iowa when he enlisted on August 8, 1962 as a Corporal into Company C, 24th Regiment Iowa Volunteer Infantry. The regiment was mustered into federal service on August 29, 1962. On December 26, 1862, he was made a drummer. He was mustered out of service on July 17, 1865 at Savannah, Georgia. Following the war he joined the Beloit Post #147 of the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) in Kansas. He was buried in Beloit, Kansas.
