Joseph S. Rippey Memorial Award
Joseph S. Rippey (31 Jan 1910 - July 28, 2002) was elected Commander -in-Chief twice, 1963 and 1964. For Glidden-Pierce Camp #6, Dept. NY
During WWII he served four years with the U.S. Navy in the SW Pacific and in Chief of Naval Operations, holding the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He continued to be active in the Naval Reserve.
A practicing attorney, he attended St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, was a Vestryman, and was for several years, its Senior Warden.
Brother Rippey's grandfather, Bernard Smith, joined Company I, 54th Regiment, New York National Guard. Great-grandfather, John Smith, Bernard’s Father, enlisted with the Pennsylvania Volunteers. https://suvcw.org/commander-in-chief-rippey
