Augustus P Davis - Conrad Linder Award

Anna Ross Camp BadgeThe Grand Army of the Republic Post 94 of Philadelphia organized the Anna M. Ross Cadet Corps, Order of Sons of Veterans, in September 1879. Other Cadet Corps followed and in July 1880. A National Organization was formed in 1881 with Alfred Cope elected Commander.   

Conrad Linder, was born in Germany.  In Pennsylvania, he is considered the first Department Commander, elected in 1880, 1881, 1882 and 1893. His father, Captain John Linder, a carpenter by trade, served in the 98th PVI, Comp. D, August 1861- June 1865. John died on 12 Feb 1910.

 

 

 

A.P. Davis, in November 1881, formed a different Sons organization in Pittsburgh called the Sons of Veterans of the United StatesAugustus P Davis of America (SVUSA). They enlisted individuals new to Sons groups, gained members from other Sons institutions, and incorporated existing Sons organizations. In 1925, the name changed to Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War. 

Augustus P. Davis, (May 10, 1835 - May 21, 1899) Captain Company F, 11th Maine Infantry.  Joining in May 12, 1861, wounded in left side and left leg at Battle of Fair Oaks, VA, May 31, 1862, poor health returned him home in 1863.  https://suvcw.org/our-founder-ap-davis.
