David R. Medert Award
PCinC Medert (2/29/1928 - 10/29/2013) a native of Chillicothe, Ohio, served in the 82nd Airborne Division and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant.
Joining the SUVCW in 1988, he organized Camp Wm. Dennison #125 containing 25 members that same year. While Department of Ohio Commander, 1991-93, the number of Camps increased from 4 active and 4 dormant camps to 14 active camps. Membership in Ohio increased from 150 in 1988 to 432 by the mid-1990s. Brother Medert brought about 150 new members into the Order.
He married wife Patricia Fife in 6 November 1949 and they had 2 children; David V. Medert, PCinC and Melissa Darby, wife of PCinC Donald Darby. Dave’s great grandfather, Cpl. Jacob Medert served in Co. D, 106th OVI, August 15, 1862- June 29, 1865. https://suvcw.org/commander-in-chief-dmedert
