Samuel S Horn

1923-1924

Samuel Stidinger Horn was born in Easton, Pennsylvania on June 22, 1870.

His father, William Penn Horn, served in Co. K, 129th Pennsylvania Infantry from August 11, 1862 to May 18, 1863.

Samuel joined the General Judson Kilpatrick Camp 233 in Easton as a charter member. He served 31 years as the Camp Secretary. He was the Camp Commander in 1892 and was elected the Pennsylvania Division Commander in 1899. At the time of his election as Commander-in-Chief, he had been with the Sons of Veterans for 34 years.

On July 25, 1900, the First Battalion of the Second Regiment, Sons of Veterans Reserves was completed. Samuel was the Captain of 50 men assigned to Company A.

He entered high school when he was 12 and completed one year before starting to work. He continued to excel at various places of work and eventually found employment at the T. T. Miller Hardware Co. as Secretary and Manager. Samuel was very active in the community, this included the President of the Northampton County Motor Club, a member of the Dallas lodge A.F. and A.M., Knights Templar,  Kiwanis, Riverside Canoe Club, McKinley Republican Club, and St. John's Lutheran Church.

Samuel was the former two-time Mayor of Easton, secretary of the Northampton County Committee of the Pennsylvania Economy League, Easton's City Controller, and served two terms in the State Legislature (1925-1926 and 1927-1928).

He married Laura Mount and they had no children.

Samuel died on March 11, 1942 and is buried in Easton Heights Cemetery in Easton. At his funeral, the Easton police force served as the pallbearers.
