Frank F. Martin

1902/1903

Frank F Martin was born in 1872 in Lebanon, Boone County, Indiana to Doctor Thomas H Martin DDS and Ella Jackson Martin who died in 1877. Brother Martin claimed his right to membership through his father who was a Second Lieutenant of Co. E 63rd> Indiana Volunteer Infantry and Captain of Company H of the 123rd Indiana Volunteer Infantry.

He graduated from Franklin Collage, Franklin, Johnson County, Indiana just as his Father had before him. While in living in Franklin he worked as the deputy auditor for Johnson county, Indiana. He graduated from Franklin Collage in 1897, and married Miss Elizabeth Payne, daughter of Dr. P.W. Payne, in December 1897.

After graduation he was in the Settlement clerk for the State Auditors office under A. C. Dailey for two years. Then after the election of 1898 he was appointed Chief Deputy to the State Auditor under Captain W.H. Hart. Upon his retirement from office he was offered a number of positions in the banking industry in Indianapolis. He accepted a position with the Indiana Trust Company and became one of the most valued officials of that institution.

He was vice president of the Indiana Bankers association. Head of the American Bankers association. A member of the Columbia and Marion Clubs, The Indianapolis Maennerchor, Scottish Rite, Murat temple, Modern Woodsmen, PHI DELTA THETA Fraternity, Indianapolis Board of Trade and Central Avenue Methodist Church.

Brother Martin was elected Commander, Department of Indiana two terms, first in 1894 at Kokomo, Howard County, Indiana and second in 1895 at Anderson, Madison County, Indiana.

He was elected Commander-in-Chief on October 10th 1902 at Washington DC. Upon assuming command Brother Martin made an address thanking the encampment for the honor. Later he held an informal reception at the Ebbitt House where he was congratulated by a large number of visitors, Governor Durbin of Indiana among the number. This was the first time this honor been awarded without opposition and his Indiana friends celebrated in an appropriate manner.

Falling to rally from an operation performed on him at the Methodist Hospital Brother Martin died on February 7th 1912. He and his wife had made their home at 1125 North New Jersey Street, Indianapolis, Indiana. They had no children. He was buried on February 9th 1912 in Greenlawn CemeterySIZE=1>, Section 4 Lot 1, Franklin, Johnson County Indiana

His Father, Thomas H MARTIN DDS of Lebanon, Boone County, Indiana survived Brother Martin. His brother Harry J. Martin, publisher of the Seymour Republican, of Seymour, Jackson County Indiana. His sister Bertha Martin Powell of Hamilton, New York wife of the Rev. Lee Powell.

And his wife Elizabeth Payne Martin who lived later in Franklin, Johnson County Indiana until her death in 1952.
