Ben Sheldon Grand Army of the Republic Post #136

The Ben Sheldon Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) Post #136 was chartered on March 7, 1884. It was disbanded in 1926. At that time, the last two surviving members of the Post were the flag bearer (George Dunning - back row left) and Herman Giffey (front row left - light suit). Herman Giffey * died in 1926. The men of the Ben Sheldon GAR Post #136 were identified by Neil Giffey' late father, Neil V. Giffey, who most likely knew most of them personally. The photograph was taken in what may have been the Brandon Congregational Church in Brandon, Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin.
