William A Hunter

William Alphaeus Hunter A residence of North Reading, Massachusetts, William Alphaeus Hunter was a 25-year old shoemaker when he enlisted on August 18, 1862. On September 19, 1862, he was mustered into Company D, 50th Regiment Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry. He participated in the May 22 to July 9, 1863 Siege of Port Hudson, Louisiana. He was mustered out of service on August 24, 1863 at Wenham, Massachusetts. Following the war, he became a member of both the Grand Army of the Republic Horace M Warren Post #12 in Wakefield, Massachusetts and Veteran Post #194 in Reading, Massachusetts.
