William Henry Harrison (Harry) Sword

William Henry Harrison (Harry) Sword was born ca 1840/41 in Pike County, Kentucky. He was son of George Powell and Lucilla Robinson of Pike County, Kentucky. He was adopted and reared by Lucas B. and Malinda Robinson Sword. He had three half brothers, John, William, and George Powell.

Harry Sword served in the Civil War in Company K of the 39th Kentucky Mounted Infantry. He enlisted at Peach Orchard, Kentucky for three years on October 26, 1862. Prisoner of War records show him captured by rebels in Pike County, Kentucky August 27, 1863 and confined at Richmond, Virginia on September 25, 1863. He was paroled at City Point, Virginia. on March 7, 1864. He reported to Camp Parole, Maryland on March 9, 1864 and was sent to Camp Chase, Ohio on March 26, 1864. He was at one time on detached duty at Louisville, Kentucky. He mustered out with his company September 15, 1865, with rank of Corporal (Service Record: #428.326-KY; Invalid Pension Record: 547.595).

In July 1860, he married Lourissa Damron (born January 23, 1841 - died March 1920) in Pikeville, Kentucky. They had six children: Louisa A Pauline Sword (born August 16, 1861); William Thomas Sword (born February 15, 1864); John Damron Sword (born July 18, 1867 - died October 22, 1953); Alpha J. Sword (born February 20, 1870 Charles Herbert Sword (born May 27, 1875 - died June 1963); and Nell Sword (born August 31, 1878). William Henry Harrison Sword died on October 1, 1914 in Pikeville, Kentucky and was buried in Dil's Cemetery on October 2, 1914 in Pikeville.
