Thomas Court

Thomas Court was born on May 5, 1839, in Milton, County of Kent, England. After working as a servant on several sailing vessels as a boy, he came to the United States and settled in Walworth County, Wisconsin. On August 15, 1862, he enlisted as a Private in Company B, 22nd Regiment Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry. Eleven days later he married Adeline C. Lewis who's family had came to Wisconsin from Vermont. In 1863, when the majority of his regiment was captured at Thompson's Station and Brentwood, Tennessee, Thomas was spared due to being on detached duty at that time. However during the Atlanta Campaign, Thomas was seriously wounded in the shoulder and sent to a hospital in Nashville to recuperate. He was able to return home on leave after his release from the hospital. He finished his enlistment in Nashville working for the Quartermaster, while still recovering from his wound, and participated in the Battle of Nashville in December 1864. He was mustered out on May 19, 1865.
