Simon W. Baker

Simon W. Baker was born June 24 1824 in Coutland County, New York. Simon enlisted in Company B of the 14th Regiment Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry at Waupaca, Wisconsin on February 20, 1864 at 40 years of age. Simon was engaged in several battles and campaigns during his service including the Red River Expedition, the Expedition to Tupelo, Mississippi and the engagements of July 13-15, 1864. His regiment was transfered to Nashville, Tennessee arriving November 30 and was engaged in the Battle of Nashville, December 15-16, 1864. His regiment also was involved in the pursuit of Hood's Army. Simon also participated in the Mobile campaign, and the capture of Spanish Fort. He was mustered out with the rest of his company and discharged from the service at Madison, Wisconsin on October 22, 1865.
