Samuel Henry Hoover

Samuel Henry Hoover was born January 17, 1844 in Pendleton County, Virginia (later West Virginia). In 1859 he moved to McLean County, Illinoi. He, along with his brother Daniel, served with Company F, 94th Illinois Volunteer Infantry. They fought in several battles including: Prarie Grove, Arkansas, the seige of Vicksburg, Fort Morgan, Mobile Bay and the seige of Spanish Fort and Fort Blakely, Mobile Bay. He was mustered out of service on July 17, 1865 in Galveston, Texas. After the war he returned to McLean County, Illinois and married Ms. Eliza Teter. They moved to Kansas where he established a 480 acre apple and fruit orchard, with shipments eventually going nationwide.
