Stephen D. Cone

Stephen D. Cone was born February 12, 1840, at Crosby, Hamilton County, Ohio. In a 1896 biographical sketch, it is reported he served in the Civil War with Company A of the 84th Ohio Volunteer Infantry (OVI) and Company F of the 167th OVI. The Ohio Adjustant General Reports for both regiments reports a Stephen D. Cohen as having enlisted age 21 June 10, 1862 for three months in Company A of the 84th O.V.I. with the remark At home at Hamilton O(HIO). No further record found. The report of Company F of the 167th O.V.I. shows Stephen D. Cohen as having served as a Private from May 2, 1864 until September 8, 1864. He was a member of the Grand Army of the Republic.

On December 30, 1864, he married Barbera Catherine Burkett. In 1876/1877, he was Business Manager/Superintendant of the Butler County Democrat. From 1885 to 1891, he was Editor of The Oxford Citizen. In 1896 and 1901, he published a volume of history of Hamilton, Butler County, Ohio. Most of the pictures of Butler County Civil War soldiers come from these volumes and this picture is from the 1901 history. In 1905, he is listed among authors of a Centinential History of Butler County, Ohio.
