Rufus Samuel Rice Rufus Samuel Rice was born October 31, 1843, in New York and died December 28, 1904, in Danbury, Connecticut. He served with Company C, 17th Connecticut Volunteer Infantry. He enlisted August 19, 1862, mustered into service August 28, 1862, and was discharged for medical reasons on January 17, 1863. According to his obituary, his son, Harry Storm Rice, was a member of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War.
