N.B. Tubbs

N.B. Tubbs was born near Milford, Kent County, Delaware on October 23, 1832. He settled in Butler County, Ohio in July 1850. On August 1, 1861, he enlisted at Cinciannati, Ohio with Company G, 5th U.S. Cavalry. A sketch of his life reports that he was in 32 battles, engagements, skirmishes; and never missed an engagement his company participated in; was never on the sick list, wounded, or taken prisoner. He was one of four men left to be mustered out of service, of the seventeen that enlisted and were assigned with him in August, 1861. His occupations included US post office railway mail clerk between Hamilton, Ohio and Richmond, Indiana until he resigned in 1870 and also manager of Singer Sewing Machine Company, Hamilton branch. He was married twice; first to Lucy Gillman and then to Lizzie Huston. He was a charter member and Post Commander of Wetzel Compton Grand Army of the Republic Post #96 in Hamilton, Ohio.
