Major James William Carlin

Major James William Carlin, Company A, 71st Regiment Ohio Volunteers, served the Union throughout the war. His first enlistment as a Captain on April 28, 1861 took his company and him through many battles and encampments. His second enlistment in 1864 resulted in he being captured and held at Andersonville Prison. Upon release in April 1865, he boarded the Sultana for home but never reached there as the Sultana's boiler exploded killing most on board.
