Joseph Monroe Lacy

Joseph Monroe Lacy was born on January 5, 1847, in Muncie, Indiana to Parker and Mary Turner. On May 24, 1864, he enlisted as a Private in Company A, 134th Regiment Indiana Volunteer Infantry, which was a 100-day regiment. His older brothers, James, Jonathan, and William, had all enlisted in Company B, 69th Regiment Indiana Volunteer Infantry. All had died of disease. A fourth brother, William B. Lacy, served in the 124th Regiment Indiana Volunteer Infantry in 1864 - 1865. Joseph and the 134th Indiana served on railroad guard and garrison duty in Nashville, Tennessee until they were mustered out in August 1864. On March 30, 1865, Joseph enlisted again as an unassigned recruit in Company I, 33rd Regiment Indiana Volunteer Infantry. He was mustered out on July 21, 1865. He died in Henry County, Indiana on August 17, 1921. Photograph and information submitted by Vince Barker on behalf of his wife, Stephanie R.
