Jesse Hendricks

Jesse Hendricks was born in Union County, Pennsylvania in 1842 and joined the 2nd Regiment, Colorado Infantry in Canon City, Colorado on December 1, 1862. On November 26, 1863, the 2nd and 3rd Regiments of Infantry became the 2nd Regiment Colorado Cavalry and Jesse served in Company G. This Regiment served in Colorado, Missouri and Kansas. He was mustered out on September 23, 1865, at the completion of his service and for the next three years he and his older brother David hunted buffalo and did some prospecting. He returned to Smithland, Iowa and married Sarah Turman on August 16, 1868. They lived in Iowa, Kansas, and finally took the Oregon trail to the west and lived in Yankton Oregon until his death on May 28, 1903. He is buried in Briggs Cemetery, Yankton, Oregon.
