James F. Bennett Prior to the Civil War, James F. Bennett served as the 1st Lieutenant of Company B, Utah Voluteer Infantry Battalion. He served in this position from November 19, 1857 through September 14, 1858. On August 30, 1862, he enlisted as a Private into the 3rd Regiment Colorado Volunteer Infantry. He was appointed as 1st Sergeant on September 24, 1862 and later Commissioned as 1st Lieutenant of Company A on December 8, 1862. In October 1863, as directed in Special Order, No. 278, Headquarters Department of Missouri, the 2nd and 3rd Regiments Colorado Volunteer Infantries were consolidated into the 2nd Colorado Volunteer Cavalry. At that time, he was commissoned as 1st Lieutenant of Company H. Due the end of the Civil War, he was mustered out of federal service on September 23, 1865. On December 20, 1866, he was elected and mustered as Captain of Company C, Missouri Enrolled Militia. He also served as Commander of the George G. Bryan Post #284 of the Grand Army of the Republic in Belgrade, Washington County, Missouri.
