James B. Murray

James B. Murray was born in Ireland. At the time of the Civil War, he was a resident of Tipton, Iowa. He enlisted on June 24, 1861 and was mustered in on July 15, 1861 as a Private into Company A, 5th Regiment Iowa Volunteer Infantry. He was 19 years old at the time. His enlistment ran out in December 1863. He reenlisted into Company A, 5th Regiment Iowa Volunteer Infantry on January 5, 1864. On August 8, 1864, he was transferred out of the infantry and into Company I, 5th Iowa Cavalry. He was mustered out of service on August 11, 1865 in Nashville, Tennessee. James B. Murray died in January 1917 in Peever, South Dakota. Photograph and information submitted by James Murray's granddaugher, Lenore Johnston.
