Jacob Medert Jacob Medert was born in Lambertheim, Germany on November 27, 1837. He and his brother, Louis, enlisted and were mustered as Privates on August 28, 1862 into Company D, 106th Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry. His regiment was captured at the Battle of Hartsville, Tennessee on December 7, 1862. They were paroled later that month and sent to Camp Chase at Columbus, Ohio. The regiment was subsequently was reformed and returned to service. He was promoted to Corporal at this time. He was mustered out of service in July 1865 at Nashville, Tennessee. He died in Chillicothe, Ohio on November 15, 1909.
