Jacob Schmitt

Civil War Veteran, Jacob Schmitt, born 1837 in Alsace Lorraine, died January 1918 in Rochester, New York. He joined the 14th New York Infantry (nicknamed the Red Legged Devils) on April 18, 1861 as a Private in Company F and was discharged as a Corporal on June 6, 1864. He was a member of the F.E. Pierce Post of the Grand Army of the Republic in March of 1867 and attended all National Encampments until his death. He was interned at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Rochester, New York.
