George William Hill

George W. Hill was born in Oakfield, Genesse County, New York, August. 26, 1843 to George James and Grace (Webber) Hill. George William Hill enrolled at Lockport, New York on March 3, 1865 as a Private in Company I, 65th Regiment New York Volunteer Infantry. He was honorably discharged at Halls Hill, Virginia on July 17, 1865. He was a member of the New York Deparment Grand Army of the Republic's (GAR) S.C. Noyes Post #220. After his move to California in 1911, he transferred his GAR membership to the Vicksburg Post #62 in Pomona, California and remained an active member until his death on October 19, 1933.

George W. Hill's 's eldest son, James Wilbur Hill (1868-1948), was a member of the Buffalo City Guards (Sons of Veterans Camp #131) in 1888. Members of the GAR and Womans' Relief Corps (WRC) and the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War attended and participated in the funeral The Pall bearers were being chosen from among the Sons of Union Veterans. George's daughter Edla Mae (Hill) Hastings was a member of the WRC.
