Captain Charles Theodore Clark

Charles Theodore Clark was born at Dalton, Wayne County, Ohio, on January 17, 1845. After attending common school in Orrville, Ohio, he entered Mt. Union College. Two years later, he joined the 85th Ohio Volunteer Infantry and served for three months as 1st Sergeant. He then transferred to the newly formed 125th Ohio Volunteer Infantry as 2nd Lieutenant in Company F. He rose to the rank of Captain and eventually commanded the company. He served through the rest of the war with the 125th and was mustered out October 18, 1865.

Following the war, he returned to Ohio and married Annie Wilson Clark, whom he had met at Mt. Union. He went into the grocery and commission business, but in 1872, he moved to Columbus where he began to read for the law. He was admitted to the bar and served a term as City Solicitor of Columbus. He was also Assistant District Attorney for one term. Throughout his life, he was associated with the 125th Ohio Association, serving at one time as Commander of the Ohio Department of the Grand Army of the Republic. He was appointed to write the regimental history, which was published in 1895 under the title, Opdycke Tigers, and was on the committee to design the 125th monument at Chickamauga.
