Charles Sumner Cotter

Charles Sumner Cotter was born October 20, 1827 and died on January 16, 1886. On August 3, 1861, he was enlisted on August 3, 1861 and was mustered into Battery A, Ohio 1st Light Artillery as a Captain. He was comissioned into the Field and Staff of the Ohio 1st Light Artillery on Novmeber 19, 1861. He was later promoted to Major on June 9, 1862, Lt Colonel on October 20, 1864, and Colonel on November 26, 1864. He served primarily in Tennesee. He was mustered out of service on August 9, 1865. Following the war, he became a member of the Grand Army of the Repuiblic David McIntosh Post #327 in Ravenna, Ohio.
