Walter C. Mabie was born in Philadelphia, PA on February 22, 1882 the eldest child of John Peter Mabie and Bessie Berryman.  John Peter Mabie was born in New Carlisle, St. Joseph's County, Indiana on May 25, 1845 and while living in Miami County, Indiana was mustered into Company A of the 20th Indiana Infantry Regiment on July 22, 1861 as a Musician and was discharged (with disability) as a Private in Utica, NY, on January 3, 1863. 

John Peter Mabie died as a result of his service related disability on December 20, 1885 and is buried in Greenwood Cemetery in Philadelphia, PA. Walter C. Mabie lived in Philadelphia where he owned a printing business. 

He and his wife, Mae Renner, raised a family of 4 children: Edna Waldron, Bess MacKerell, Walter W. Mabie and Mae Belle Johnson.  Walter died March 26, 1957 and is buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Philadelphia, PA.
