Hess Post #595 The picture is of the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) Hess Post #595 in Armstrongs Mills, Washington Township, Belmont County, Ohio, on Decoration Day, about 1910. The post was named for my great-granduncle, Lafayette Hess, Sergeant, Company F, 15th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. He was killed at Kennesaw Mountain and is buried in the National Cemetery in Marietta, Georgia. My great-grandfather is on the right end of the middle row. His name was John W. Hess and he served as a Sergeant in Company F, 52nd Ohio Volunteer Infantry. Some of the other men are identified on the back of the original picture.
