William Lindsey was born in 1839 in Ohio. He enlisted in the 47th Indiana Volunteer Infantry, Company H in March 1864. He was in action at Alexandria and Atchafalaya Bayou, Louisiana and at Spanish Fort, Fort Blakely and Mobile Bay, Alabama. He was discharged October 1865. After the war he went west as an Indian agent, returning to Indiana in the 1890's. He was a member of the Grand Army of the Republic. He died in the soldiers home Marion, Indiana in October 1899.
