Samuel Ringer was born July 7, 1840 in Guernsey County, Ohio. He died March 22, 1923 in Huntington Township, Ross County, Ohio and is buried at Denver Cemetery (Denver Church Cemetery). Samuel Ringer served as a Private in Company H, 63rd Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry. He was enrolled on February 27, 1864 at Chillicothe, Ohio for three years. He was mustered out along with his Company June 30, 1865.
Two brothers of Samuel Ringer also fought in the Civil War: Alpheus Ringer, Company G, 62nd Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry and Jacob Ringer Jr., Company C, 178th Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry (died of typhoid fever at the General Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania).
