Sergeant John Conger Cole

Sgt. John Conger Cole, resident of Porter County (between Chesterton and Valparaiso) Indiana. He mustered in South Bend, Indiana in Co. E., 73rd Indiana Regiment, on August 16, 1862. He joined the regiment for duty on August 4, 1862, at Calumet (Chesterton). Physical description: 25 yr; height: 5' 7-1/2"; complexion: light, blue eyes, brown hair; born in Huron Co., Ohio; occupation: farmer. He was promoted from Private to Sergeant, March 29, 1863. He mustered out in Nashville, Tennessee on July 1, 1865. Photograph submitted by great-great-grandson, Tim Cole
