James Alling Colvin
James Alling Colvin was born in New Jersey. He was 24 years old when he enlisted and was mustered in as a Private on April 18, 1861 into Company B, 25th New York Militia Infantry. He was mustered out on August 4, 1861. On August 25, 1862, he was commissioned into as a Captain of Company A, 169th Regiment New York Volunteer Infantry. On February 13, 1864, he was promoted to Major and transferred to Field and Staff within the 169th New York Infantry. ON November 9, 1864, he was promoted Lt Colonel of the regiment. Following the Civil War, he also had subsequent service during the Spanish-American War. He died at Fort McPherson in Atlanta, Georgia on May 9, 1899.
