Benjamin Siar

Benjamin Siar was born in Carroll County Maryland in 1827. On September 23, 1849, he married Sarah Ann Skidmore in St. John's Lutheran Church, Abbottstown, Adams County, Pennsylvania. Sarah was born in Pennsylvania, the daughter of Samuel Skidmore and Catharine (Stough) Skidmore. Benjamin and Sarah had five boys, Samuel G. Siar (1851 - December 2, 1923); John Wesley Siar (February 15, 1853 - February 27, 1857); William A. Siar (September 29, 1855 - February 1, 1864); Clayton Siar (June 21, 1858 - May 7, 1905); and Harry Elmer Siar (July 29, 1866 - February 8, 1948).

Benjamin enlisted at the age of 37 on September 6, 1864 with Company I of the 209th Regiment of the Pennsylvania Volunteers. He mustered in at Franklintown, Franklin County, Pennsylvania and he listed his occupation as a shoemaker. He had hazel eyes, brown hair, and fair complexion. At the time of his death (March 14, 1899) he lived in the home he and Sarah owned in York, Pennsylvania.
