William O’Brien

At age 18, William O’Brien enlisted when on April 25, 1863 at Oswego, New York as a Private and was mustered on June 21, 1863 into Battery K Company, 4th New York Heavy Artillery. On April 2, 1865, he was wounded at Sutherland Station, Virginia. He was mustered out of service on June 30, 1865 at David’s Island, New York Harbor. Following the war, he became a member of the Grand Army of the Republic. Photograph and information submitted by William O’Brien's great granddaughter, Duncan Farney.
