William F. Crippen

William F. Crippen was born in 1843. He enlisted June 12, 1863 as a Private in Company G, 9th Tennessee Cavalry, later serving in Company G, 7th Regiment. He was discharged February 28, 1865 as a 2nd Lieutenant in Company G, 7th Regiment at Nashville, Tennessee.

William married Mallie (or Mollie) S. (unable to read the last name) January 31, 1866 at Beaver Ridge, Knox County, Tennessee by J. P. Milburn, minister of the gospel. She died June 15, 1902 at Bearden, Knox County, Tennessee. There were apparently no children to this marriage as one affidavit the soldier filled in asked: Have you any children living? If so, please state their names and the dates of their birth. His answer: none. William was married for a second time at Knoxville, Knox County, Tennessee Novovember 27, 1906 to Sarah Hibbert by E.C. Wilson, minister. This was Sarah's first marriage. Sarah filed for a widow's pension from Knoxville the winter of 1911 stating the soldier had died October 8, 1911. Other affidavits in this file included testimonies from: J.C. Shipe of Bearden and John B. CRreswell, also of Bearden.
