Thomas Thomas

Thomas was born in north Wales in 1824, and came to the U.S. in about 1848. He served in the 76th Regiment of the Ohio Volunteer Infantry, 1861-1862, re-enlisted in 1864, and was taken prisoner by the Confederate Army in October of that year, near Cave Springs, Georgia.

After surviving imprisonment at Andersonville, he died with hundreds of other former prisoners on their way north in the explosion of the steamship Sultana on the Mississippi River near Memphis on April 27, 1865.

Photo submitted by Thomas Thomas's great-great-grandson Ronald Thomas Donnell.
