Thomas Jefferson Munn

Thomas Jefferson Munn was born January 3, 1837 in New York City, New York, the son of Jesse and Harriet (Reed) Munn. He was a 24 year-old watchcase maker from Melrose, Massachusetts when he enlisted on July 16, 1861 into Company A, 13th Regiment Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry. On August 30, 1862, as a result of the Battle of 2nd Bull Run, he became a Prisoner of War. He was paroled on December 11, 1862. He was wounded during the Battle of Gettysburg on July 1, 1863. On May 4, 1864, he was transferred into 42nd Company, Veteran Reserve Corps, 2nd Battalion. He was mustered out of service on July 25, 1864. Following the war, he returned to Melrose, Massachusetts where he married Melissa Sarah Batting on May 22, 1869. He became a member of the Grand Army of the Republic U.S. Grant Post #4. He died on April 9, 1914 at Melrose, Massachusetts.
