Samuel M. Washburn

Samuel M. Washburn was born in 1836 in Allen County, Ohio. On September 25, 1861, he enlisted in New London, Iowa as a Private into Company D., 4th Regiment Iowa Volunteer Cavalry, he was 21 years old at the time. The regiment was mustered into federal service on November 25, 1861. He was mustered out of service on August 15, 1862 in Keokuk, Iowa.

Samuel's brother Silas, also served in the Civil War (Enlisted August 15, 1862 as a Private into Company K, 25th Regiment Iowa Volunteer Infantry, Age 28 years. Silas died of disease on March 1, 1863 at Young's Point, Louisiana). Samuel took Silas's son, Samuel, with him when he moved to Geuda Springs, Kansas. Samuel M. Washburn died in 1920 and was buried in Geuda Springs, Kansas.
