Robert H. Bentley

Robert H. Bentley was born in Mansfield, Ohio on August 8, 1835. At the time of his enlistment, he was 26 years old and was an attorney by profession. He enlisted on April 17, 1861 as a Sergeant and was mustered into Company I of the 1st Ohio Volunteer Infantry. He was mustered out of the 1st Ohio Volunteer Infantry on August 2, 1861. He was then commissioned as a 1st Lieutenant and Quartermaster in the 32nd Ohio Volunteer Infantry on August 10, 1861. He resigned that commission on July 27, 1863 and was commissioned as a Lt Colonel in the 12th Ohio Volunteer Cavalry on November 24, 1863. He was promoted by brevet to Colonel and then to Brigadier General on March 13, 1865. He resigned his commission on July 15, 1865. Brevet Brigadier General Robert H. Bentley died in Mansfield, Ohio on November 24, 1900.
