Philip Rothenbush

Philip Rothenbush was born July 1, 1842 in Rossville (Hamilton), Butler County, Ohio. Prior to the Civil War, we worked as a drug clerk in his father's store. According to an 1896 biographicial sketch, he enlisted for three months in Captain W.C. Rossman's Company F of the 3rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry. However, the Ohio Adjutant General's Report for this company does not list him. He is listed, however, as serving from September 15, 1861 through September 23, 1864 in Company I of the 35th Ohio Volunteer Infantry; raising to the rank of Captain and being wounded September 19, 1863 at Chickamauga, Georgia. After the War, in 1865, he was US Assessor for Fairfield and St Clair Townships in Butler County, Ohio and, in 1866, he was US Store Keeper for 3rd District of Ohio. On January 16, 1866, he married Miss Ollie M. Ratliff. In the 1896 biograghy, he was listed as a Fruit merchant in Hamilton, Ohio. He was also member of Grand Army of the Republic.
