Philip Rasler

Philip N. Rasler Philip N. Rasler enlisted in the Union Army on August 24, 1861 at Camp Tilden, White Pigeon, Michigan at the age of 21. He joined Company C of the 11th Regiment Michigan Volunteer Infantry and served for a period of three years as a Private. While in the army, he was detailed as a company cook and on September 16, 1863, he was detailed as a Division teamster. Private Rasler's regiment participated in the battles of Stones River, Tennessee; Chickamauga, Georgia; Missionary Ridge, Tennessee; Resaca, Georgia; Kenesaw Mountain, Georgia; and Atlanta, Georgia; to name just a few. After the war, Mr. Rasler and his family lived in Indiana, Nebraska, Kansas, Oregon, and finally Washington State. While living in Nebraska, he became a member of the Grand Army of the Republic Alfred Doane Post #226 in Gandy, Logan County. Mr. Rasler died on March 30, 1904 in Jefferson County, Washington and is buried in the Shine Cemetery. Photograph and information submitted by Philip N.
