Orange Sells

Orange Sells, age 27, enlisted and was commissioned on September 30, 1863 as a 1st Lieutenant into Company D, 12th Ohio Volunteer Cavalry. He was wounded and became a prisoner of war following the Battle of Saltville, Virginia October 2, 1864. He was promoted to Captain on October 26, 1864. He was mustered out service on May 15, 1865. Following the war, he served as Mayor of Hilliard, Ohio, Superintendent of the Ohio Statehouse, and Commander of the John A. Spellman Grand Army of the Republic Post #321.

Paul Benjamin Sells, son of Orange and member of Governor William Dennison Camp #1, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, died in service of his Camp. He was playing the drum in a funeral march for another Camp member, David Evans. The Sells family is buried in Section R in Greenlawn Cemetery, Columbus, Ohio.
