Josiah W. Taylor

Sgt.-Major Josiah W. Taylor was born in Exeter, New Hampshire, November 1, 1831. He enlisted August 14, 1862 as a Private in Company I in the 11th New Hampshire Volunteer Infantry. He was wounded at the Battle of the Wilderness, Virginia May 6, 1864. He died at Kalorama General Hospital in Washington, DC March 18, 1865 of small pox and is buried at Arlington National Cemetery, Section 13, Grave #9583. A memorial stone is also placed at the burial site of spouse, Urania (Maria F. Stilson) Taylor, in Evergreen Cemetery, New Haven, Vermont, next to their daughter, Nellice Clara (Taylor) Hunt. His son, Clarence A. Taylor, was a member of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War. Photograph and information submitted by Josiah W. Taylor's great great grandson Richard A. Taylor.
