James Maguire

James Maguire served in Company C, 2nd Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry from May 25, 1861 until discharged on July 14, 1865. He enlisted as a private and was discharged a sergeant. He served in both the 12th Corp in the eastern theater, and later in the 20th Corp in the west. He was wounded on July 3rd at the Battle of Gettysburg. He joined the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) on January 5, 1871, serving in several positions until becoming Post Commander in 1883. (John H. Chipman, Jr. GAR Post 89, Department of Massachusetts). His wife, Delia, served on the Woman's Relief Corps. James died on October 3, 1912 at the age of 69, and is buried in Beverly, Massachusetts.
