James I. Moss

James I. Moss was born June 8, 1848 in Bowling Green, Indiana. He ran away from his Illinois home to enlist in Company D, 15th Iowa Infantry on April 13, 1864 at the age of 15, although he claimed to be 19. His older brother, George W. Moss, served in the same company. James was discharged on July 24, 1865 at the end of the war. He died February 21, 1920 in Marshalltown, Iowa at the Iowa Soldiers Home and is buried on their grounds at the Grand Army of the Republic National Cemetery.
