James Franklin Bush

2nd Sgt. James Franklin Bush was born November 1, 1838 in Lockport, Niagara County, New York. He enlisted May 1861 in Company B, 28th Regiment New York Volunteers (1st Brigade, 1st Division, 12th Corps, Army of the Potomac) and was discharged June 1863. His company was named The Rowdy Boys because they were all recruited in his brother's saloon. He married Mary Elizabeth Kromer on June 1, 1864 in Lockport, New York. He was at the battles of Cedar Mountain, Antietam, Rappahannock, Winchester, and Shenandoah Valley. His last fight was Chancellorsville. At Cedar Mountain, the 28th Regiment paid the supreme sacrifice with 17 of 18 officers that started across that field being killed, wounded, or captured. Out of 390 enlisted men who went into action, 196 became casualties. He died December 25, 1874.
