Ernst Julius Adolph Rust

Ernst Julius Adolph Rust was a resident of Newark, New Jersey when he enlisted in New York in Company A, 20th New York Volunteer Infantry, Turner Rifles, May 3, 1861. He was honorably mentioned for uniform good conduct in General Order No. 27, August 18, 1861. He was injured in the right leg at White Oak Swamp, Virginia, June 30, 1862. This injury gave him trouble the rest of his life. He was honorably mustered out at New York, June 1, 1863.

Julius married Caroline Kaellhoffer and they became the parents of seven children. Their youngest was Emil Winfield Rust, my grandfather, who was an artist who settled in Erie, Pennsylvania.
