Edwin R. Grubbs

Edwin R. Grubbs, a resident of Montgomery County, Illinois, enlisted at Alton, Illinois on August 15, 1862 and was mustered on September 4, 1862 as a Private into Company D, 126th Regiment Illinois Volunteer Infantry. The 126th took part in the Siege of Vicksburg and finished the war in the Arkansas, being involved in the action at Little Rock and Pine Bluff. He was mustered out of service on July 12, 1865 at Pine Bluff, Arkansas. After the war, Edwin married and had six children. He died when he was 34 from a common war malady, chronic diarrhea.
