Daniel Shepley

Daniel Shepley was born in 1842 in Mysersville, Frederick County, Maryland. On August 18, 1862, he enlisted and was mustered into Company G, 7th Maryland Volunteer Infantry as a Private. During the War, he was promoted to Sergeant. One of the battles that he participated in during his three year service was the Battle of the Wilderness. Also, several days before Lee's surrender, Sergeant Shepley was captured by Confederates and cast into prison He was mustered out of service on May 31, 1865 in Washington, DC. Following the Civil War, he took up the occupation as a shoemaker. Mr. Shepley died on January 26, 1929. At the time of his death, he was a member of the Myersville Lutheran Church and the Grand Army of the Republic.
